So to start off if you don't know I've found it much easier to take weight loss by working toward something other then a number. what i found last October was Nike puts together a Marathon and a half in San Francisco in October. I am not a runner by any means but a half marathon would be accomplishing something new and would work toward an ultimate "unconscious" goal of losing some lbs. after the last two times of being there and going to football games, we said the next time we go we would not be going to a game:) " this year we were going to go to DC" this doesn't mean i wouldn't miss the half because there is one in April there by Nike also, but me not being a runner at all i thought that going for the October one would give me more time to prepare. we talked it out and found out that the reason we planed to hit DC this year turns out wasn't what we thought it was going to be, so we are working trowed SF this fall. it's going to be a random draw so i may not even get in it but i'm not thinking about that right now. the draw opens in April- may sometime, to get people ready for the dc half Nike put on a virtual 10 k this weekend. it was 40 bucks but they gave out a dri-fit shirt and $10 of it goes to the leukemia and lymphoma society.
when i saw this posted on there facebook page i thought "this would give me a good chance to figure out what i need to work on for the half"(because this would be half of a half) so i found a 10 k trainer on my phone and started working out to it four or five weeks ago so that i could have it finished before my race. I've been bad and missed and spent some Friday's catching up on workouts till this week were i had counted wrong and that meant running for an hour in the morning and night. i do feel bad working out at night when i don't work because it takes away from hanging out with Justin, but he has been so super supportive that i don't know what i would do with out him.
so setting out yesterday in the snow all i wanted to do was finish and make it under 3 hrs. looking at the map of my run it looks so much further then it felt like running it. Justin being so awesome set up some place's that he waited for me so i could get a drink and do a little stretching or whatever i needed and when i got home he a sign saying congrats you did it! (told you he's awesome) my 5 k time was 48 mins (that also was a first:) and then my 10 k time was 1:46. now that it's over i would really like to get that time down so that i can have a good half time. they give 61/2 hrs to do it but i think if i can do my first half in 2- 21/2 hrs that would be so awesome. also i know for sure what my mile time is because my elliptical does't really count correctly so it's really nice to know that my mile really isn't 30 min's lol
i kinda am hoping that Nike does another 10 k before the race in October it would be good practice if i make it to the half and if i don't draw out it would still be awesome to be able to do another 10 k:) here is to a year of trying new things and becoming a runner. my goal for now
not sure if this all makes any sense, i'm sure it's a jumbled mess but i really wanted to post on my race and get all these thoughts out of my head and on to "paper"
